Bookmap Review 2026: Is the Order Flow Heatmap Worth It?

Bookmap is an order flow platform that turns the order book into a heatmap. Instead of a ladder of numbers that changes ten times a second, you see where resting limit orders have sat over time - bright bands where liquidity is thick, dark gaps where it is thin - with executed trades drawn on top as bubbles. For futures day traders, including many on prop firm accounts, it answers a question a candlestick chart cannot: where is the size actually waiting?

Prices from bookmap.com/pricing, checked 21 October 2026. No plan includes live stock or futures data: the free Digital plan shows US stocks and futures on a delay, and real-time data is bought separately after you subscribe - BookmapData from $34 a month per futures exchange ($79 for the CME bundle), dxFeed from $37, Rithmic $40-$101. On a prop firm account, the firm's own Rithmic login supplies the data instead, usually with a Level 2 add-on.
What Bookmap Shows That a Chart Doesn't
- The heatmap. Every resting limit order is plotted by price and time, coloured by size. You see liquidity build, hold and get pulled - not just a snapshot of the book.
- Volume dots. Each executed trade appears as a bubble sized by volume and coloured by whether buyers or sellers were the aggressors.
- The DOM. A live depth-of-market ladder runs alongside the heatmap, and you can place and move orders from it on supported connections.
- Order flow indicators. Cumulative volume delta, large-trade alerts and, on higher plans, the Stops & Icebergs and Large Lot trackers, which flag hidden size and big prints.
- Replay. Recorded sessions can be replayed tick by tick, which is the fastest way to learn to read the heatmap without risking an account.
The practical use is context for entries and stops. A trader who sees 800 contracts resting two ticks above price thinks twice about buying into it, and a stop placed just beyond a thick liquidity band is harder to run than one sitting in a gap. Bookmap does not give signals. It shows the market's plumbing and leaves the interpretation to you.
Bookmap Pricing: The Software and the Data
Bookmap's price has two parts, and most reviews quote only the first. The software runs from free to $199 a month. Real-time futures or stock data is a separate bill, and it is the one that decides whether Bookmap is cheap or expensive for you. A futures trader on the Global plan with BookmapData's $79 CME bundle pays $128 a month, or $118 with the software billed annually - and that assumes non-professional status, since professional CME access adds $500 a month to the bundle.
Using Bookmap With a Futures Prop Firm
Bookmap does not connect to a prop firm directly. It connects to the data and order-routing service the firm uses, and for futures firms that is usually Rithmic. You select Rithmic in Bookmap's connection menu, choose the firm's system name and the Chicago gateway, and log in with the credentials the firm sent you. Bookmap also connects to Tradovate, CQG and Interactive Brokers, but Tradovate's CME data is not full depth, so Rithmic is the cleaner route for a heatmap that depends on the whole book.
Two firms on this site list Bookmap among their supported platforms outright: Bulenox, which runs every account on Rithmic, and Nexgen ProTrader Funding. Most other Rithmic-based futures firms - Apex Trader Funding, Take Profit Trader, Lucid Trading, Alpha Futures and others - work in practice because Bookmap is a standard Rithmic front end, but confirm with support before paying for a plan. The exception to know about is Topstep: new accounts trade only on TopstepX, so Bookmap is not an option there.
Who Bookmap Is For - and Who Should Skip It
Bookmap earns its cost for intraday futures traders who already understand order flow and want to see liquidity rather than infer it - scalpers on ES, NQ and CL in particular. It is a poor first tool for a brand-new trader who cannot yet read a basic chart or DOM, and it adds little for swing traders, because resting orders that matter over minutes are irrelevant over days. Remember too that the book can lie: large orders are pulled or spoofed constantly, and reading which liquidity is real takes screen time.
Pros
- Shows the history of liquidity, not just the current order book
- Free Digital plan with real-time crypto data lets you learn the heatmap at no cost
- Heatmap, volume dots and DOM trading on one screen
- Session replay for practising without risk
- Standard Rithmic front end, so it fits most futures prop firm accounts
- Lifetime licences available if you plan to use it for years
Cons
- Live futures and stock data costs extra on every plan
- The free plan shows futures and stocks on a delay
- A steep learning curve - the heatmap needs interpretation, and spoofed orders mislead beginners
- Little value for swing or position traders
- Not available on Topstep, which runs new accounts on TopstepX only
Prop Firms Where Bookmap Fits
Our Verdict
Bookmap is the clearest way to see order flow, and for an intraday futures trader on a Rithmic prop firm account it is worth trying. Start on the free Digital plan with crypto to learn what the heatmap is telling you, then move to Global only when you know you will use it every session - and add the firm's Level 2 data cost before you decide it is cheap.
Try Bookmap freeBookmap FAQ
Is Bookmap free?
The Digital plan is free and includes real-time crypto data from exchanges such as Binance and Bitfinex, but only one symbol and delayed US stocks and futures. Real-time futures need a paid plan - Global starts at $49 a month, or $39 billed annually - plus market data.
Can I use Bookmap with a prop firm?
Yes, with most futures firms that offer Rithmic. Log in to Bookmap's Rithmic connection with the credentials your firm provides and buy the firm's Level 2 data add-on. Bulenox and Nexgen ProTrader Funding list Bookmap directly. Topstep does not support it, because new accounts trade only on TopstepX.
How much does Bookmap really cost per month?
The software is $39-$49 a month on Global. On a personal account, add $34-$110 for real-time data; on a prop firm account, add the firm's Level 2 fee of roughly $36-$38 instead. Expect $75-$160 a month in total for a single futures trader.
Bookmap vs ATAS or Sierra Chart?
Bookmap is built around the liquidity heatmap and is the easiest of the three to read visually. ATAS centres on footprint and cluster charts, and Sierra Chart is a cheaper, highly configurable all-rounder with a dated interface. Many order flow traders run Bookmap for the book and another platform for footprint charts.
